It struck me yesterday, as I was grumbling to myself about not being able to get anything done in 10 minute increments, that yes, I could choose to get something done or I could grumble to myself and continue to be unhappy. Granted not all projects are easily interruptible, but some are, and on days where attention spans are limited I could work on certain kinds of chores and projects, saving the ones that require longer bursts of attention for other days. In short, If I can't make the world work the way I want it, why not adapt to what I want to fit the world I live in.
Rather than vacuum the house, which wasn't going anywhere because it seemed that I would get the vacuum turned on and immediately have to turn it off to go somewhere and do something else, I realized that I had the perfect opportunity to clean out the bathroom medicine cabinets, something that had been on the list for a while, and which could be easily stopped and started as many times as necessary.
But life is not all about household maintenance and I am determined to work on something just for myself every day, and not waste my time fretting over what I am not able to do. Obviously pattern cutting was out. And so was knitting because the getting it out and counting and putting it away again after less than a row was trying my patience. Besides, I am nearing the end of the piece I ripped out and restarted and I will need to start a new project soon, which means I needed to get one of those UFOs out of the queue before I could consign the current project to the sewing-up queue and start knitting something new. And I need to be able to have something on the needles for that precious hour in the evenings when I wind down and let my mind wander.
She is a bulky sweater knitted in Cascade Venezia Bulky, a silk and wool yarn, using an old Berroco pattern.
The sweater had been sitting around since April waiting for me to set in the sleeves and weave in the ends and it should have been done long ago. At least now I will have it ready when fall actually arrives. The sleeves didn't take long but weaving in the ends and sewing on the buttons ended up taking most of the afternoon and by the time I was finished I didn't have enough light to take more photos.
I see I also left the bottom button off. I can sew that on tomorrow, or perhaps even later today. After all, it can be done in 10 minutes or less.
Such a beautiful knit, sweater. Fits perfectly with your new shoes too!
